Taitaja2013 competitors arrived at the Arena!

Taitaja2013 finalists arrived today at the Joensuu Arena. There are 414 finalists out of whom 36 competitors take part in demonstration categories and 27 competitors
in TaitajaPLUS competition. Moreover, altogether 26 guest competitors from nine different countries look for experience in skills competition.

Here it goes..

The teams arrived at the Taitaja 2013 Opening Ceremony. The impressive Opening Ceremony was held in the Joensuu Ice Hall. The program included the presentations
of the teams, competitor and judge oaths and the speech of Vilma Hassi, last year’s Taitajien Taitaja winner. Moreover, we enjoyed some great dance performances
and the music of Anna Puu.

The speech was given by Minister of Labor Lauri Ihalainen. Warm greetings were heard from the Mayor of Joensuu Kari Karjalainen, the Chairperson of Skills Finland ry
and Counselor of education Seija Rasku and Manager of North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium Ilkka Pirskanen. Finally the words that everybodyh
ad been waiting for were heard as Competition Manager Anne Karppinen declared the Taitaja2013 competition officially open.
There is excitement in the air – tomorrow the competitors take serious action. You are welcome to follow the Finnish National Skills Competition Taitaja2013 event
in Joensuu Arena!

Tomorrow a press conference for media..

On Tuesday 14 May at 9 am a press conference is arranged in the media point of the Taitaja2013 competition, in the “Voitto” meeting room in Joensuu Arena.
The media may interview the representatives of the competition organizers, the representative of the main cooperation partner and the competition manager.

The Taitaja competition is the biggest annual event in vocational education in Finland. Approximately 35,000 people are expected to visit Joensuu. There will be 400 young people in 40 trades competing for the Finnish championships. At the same time there will be arranged TaitajaPLUS competition for students with special needs and Taitaja9 competition where 100 9th graders of upper comprehensive schools compete in craftsmanship. Taitaja2013 event in Joensuu is arranged by the North Karelia Municipal Education and
Training Consortium with its schools and cooperation partners.

Skills Finland ry acts as the background organization of the Taitaja event. Skills Finland promotes Finnish excellence in skills through Taitaja, Taitaja9 and TaitajaPLUS competitions and by training and coaching young professionals, competition specialists and trainers. Skills Finland is also responsible for sending Finland’s national team
to the international WorldSkills, EuroSkills and Abilympics competitions.

Taitaja2013 Finnish National Skills competition 14-16 May 2013, Tue at 9-17, Wed at 9-18 and Thu at 8-13. There is free admission to the event.
